Kid Stango®

Equipment

Ball – Dick’s Sporting Goods 6″ diameter Nautical Mini Volleyball (which is nothing like a volleyball to me), a 7-inch playground kickball, regular mini volleyballs, or for older kids, up to a #3 soccer ball with a 18.5-cm (7.3-inch) diameter. They can also use spikeballs and dog frisbees. For dog frisbees, please see Frisbee Stango rules.

Play Area

The field contains one stango at the center of the field or the court.

For older kids, the following field and court dimensions can be used.

For younger kids, use your judgment as to what will work best. Perhaps only use the No-Zone Line (which they must stay beyond), trying out different No-Zone Line radiuses.

Game Setup & Rules

One simple rule change (from more adult forms of Stango) is to keep Insiders from being allowed to travel into Outsider territory.

Depending on the age and ability of the kids, as well as the court situation, use your judgement as to how many kids should play at one time and for how long. As a rule of thumb, have twice as many Outsiders as Insiders, but it’s been played by 6th graders with equal numbers of Insiders and Outsiders, so have fun experimenting.
