Terminology

Single Stango setup

Stango®         The goalpost at the center of the No-Zone.

No-Zone      The area surrounding the stango, where players are excluded (except under three limited circumstances).

No-Zone Line  (red)        A circle 5 meters from the stango defining the No-Zone.

Double Point Line  (blue)          A circle 9 meters from the stango separating the Inside (playing area) from the Outside (playing area). Goals made from beyond the Double Point Line are double those made from inside it.

Insiders         Those playing between the No-Zone and Double Point Lines, the area known as “Inside”.

Outsiders        Those playing beyond the Double Point Line, the area known as “Outside”.

The Hedge  (green)          In both Single and Court Stango, a team may not score consecutive goals until they either bring the ball out beyond the Hedge or the opposing team touches the ball.

The Boundary Line   (black)          The line beyond which a ball is out of bounds, and in Court Stango the line players may not go beyond with both feet except to in-bound a ball. (In Single Stango, the Boundary Line is anywhere from 4 to 6 meters outside the Hedge. In Court Stango, the Boundary Line is a minimum of 2 meters, and up to 4 meters, beyond the court Boundary Lines – as much as room permits.)

Throw             Throw, thrown and throwing are shorthand for all the different ways to pass and shoot on goal, other than kicking (i.e., use one’s feet). They include, for example, bouncing, punching, heading, and rolling.

Out of Bounds          A ball is out of bounds when it goes beyond the Boundary Line.

Alleys        The two Alleys (shown in green, below) are on the sides of the Court between the Hedge and Boundary Lines. Only Outsides may enter, and while they are able to score from the Alleys, their goals only receive Insider goal point-values.
