Court Stango®

Equipment

Ball – Either a Niki Mini Basketball (or equivalent), or a #3 soccer ball with a 18.5-cm (7.3-inch) diameter.

One stango.

Circle, boundary and Alley defining material – lines, discs.

Play Area

A basketball court with a stango at its center.

Beyond the court’s Hedge (the basketball court boundary lines), until the Boundary Lines, is additional play-area enabling Outsiders to run through to the other side of the court. The Boundary Lines should be a minimum of 2-meters, up to 4meters, from the Hedge Lines – as much as space will allow.

Game Setup & Rules

The game begins with the top hoop locked into place, its opening parallel to the short sides of the court, while the other two hoops are set so that all three hoops are ~120 degrees from one another. For the remainder of the game the middle and bottom hoops are left to move as they will.

Teams consist of 8 playing members. Of these, only 2 at a time may be Insiders – those allowed to play interior to the Double Point Lines. The other 6 players − called Outsiders − must stay beyond the Double Point Line, and are allowed beyond the Hedge.

If, in more relaxed competition, there are only 7 total members on the team, one Insider from both Period 1 and Period 2 may become Insiders during Period 3.

Insiders may not go beyond the Hedge, and Outsiders may not go beyond the Boundary Line with both feet except to put an out-of-bounds ball back into play.

Outside players may score from the Alleys, but receive Insiders’ goal values when doing so.

Teams may not score consecutively unless they first take the ball beyond the Hedge (exclusive of the Alleys) or the other team has touched the ball.

In the case of “yellow card” fouls, players must sit on their bench during their time-out.
