FOULS
Players must attempt to avoid harsh contact, and when self-referring are responsible for calling their own fouls.
Fouls occurs when:
1) a player interferes with an opponent by pushing, hitting, tripping, grabbing or entangling them or their clothes, projecting the ball at an opponent, or by any other similar unsportsperson-like action,
2) in touching an opponent to sense their movement, a player either impedes their movement or causes them to lose balance,
3) a player enters the No-Zone (except as allowed to kick out a ball, defend an opponent just outside the No-Zone Line, or to pass through).
4) a defensive player touches the ball while in an opponent’s hand(s),
5) an offensive player causes a stationary defensive player to be pushed off their spot,
6) an Outsider crosses over the Double Point Line,
7) in Court Stango®, a player goes beyond the Boundary Line with both feet, other than to put an out-of-bounds ball back into play, or
8) a player affects the stango with their body.
FOUL & VIOLATION CONSEQUENCES
If a foul is accidental or minimal in effect, the fouled player resumes play from their location. The opposing team must give the fouled player a 2-meter clearance before play resumes.
Should an opponent’s foul cause a player to lose possession, the fouled player resumes play with a 2-meter clearance and, if necessary, the 2 consecutive steps reset.
If a foul is intentional and significant, the offending player receives a yellow card (which do not accumulate as in soccer) and must sit out next to the Boundary Line for five minutes, and while there, is not allowed to interact with the ball. Additionally, a chosen player from the opposing team gets to take an unobstructed shot on goal from any legal location (receiving the same points as during normal play, if successful). This shot must be taken within 30 seconds of the fouling player sitting down. Play immediately continues after the shot.
Truly intentional and dangerous and/or anger-filled fouls result in a red card, requiring the player to leave the game without replacement.
A player in possession of the ball who takes more than 2 consecutive steps without dribbling or takes steps for a second time without dribbling, must place the ball on the ground for the other team, and they must be given a 2-meter clearance before play resumes.
Insiders stepping into the No-Zone for other than the three allowable reasons, or Outsiders stepping inside the Double Point Line, receive a yellow card and must sit next to the Boundary Line until the opposing team scores, and while there, are not allowed to interact with the ball.
In Court Stango, a player going beyond the Boundary Line with both feet, other than to in-bound a ball, is benched for 5 minutes.
Players affecting the stango with their body are expelled from the game without replacement.
Stalling is prohibited. A team deemed to be stalling must immediately: 1) give the ball to the closest defensive player, and give them a 2-meter clearance before restarting, and 2) lose points: A losing team loses 5 points, a winning team’s score drops 10 points below their opponent’s.
