Why Stango®?
Soccer (AKA football) and basketball are the first and third most popular sports in the world. Stango combines the skills and techniques of both for a full-throttled game in which players use both their feet and hands to move the ball and score with!
How else is Stango unique?
With the goalpost – the stango – at the center of the circular field, and players allowed to roam 360° around the stango, everyone is constantly on offense and defense.
Since stangos have 3 vertical hoops that independently rotate or revolve around the stango when hit, the attack orientations are constantly changing!
With goals abled to be scored through either side of the hoops, attacks can come from any direction. And since players from both teams are everywhere around the stango, neither the sun nor wind favors one team over the other.
Scoring a goal does not stop play in this continually moving game; only the clock running out for each of the three Periods does.
What else about Stango?
There are just two positions: Insiders and Outsiders. Outsiders, who play beyond the Double Point Line (shown in blue in the diagram below), are restricted to moving the ball soccer style, while Insiders are able to move the ball both soccer and basketball style.
To score, all players are allowed to use any part of their body, but kicked-in goals are worth 5 times those thrown in, and kicked-in goals scored from outside the Double Point Line are worth, yes, double, those scored from inside.
Different Versions
There are three distinct setups/versions of Stango: Single Stango is played on a circular field with one stango (as illustrated above). Court Stango, also using one stango, is played on a basketball court with an added 2-4 meters play-area all around. And Stango, the primary full version, is played on an oval field with two stangos for both teams to score on.
The game is also capable of being played with various balls as well as with frisbees, and the heights can be lowered for youngsters.
